Weld County oil spills for Oct. 4 – Greeley Tribune

The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual “spills” do occur among the 18,000-plus wells in the county.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Sept. 29 a historical flowline spill near U.S. 34 and Weld County Road 55, about 2 miles northeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned flowline near the separator. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for benzo(a)anthracene.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Sept. 29 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 57 and 40, about 22 miles northeast of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned tank battery. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for total petroleum hydrocarbons.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Sept. 28 a historical flowline spill near Weld 57 and 46, about 9 miles south of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned flowline. Two soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for benzo(a)anthracene.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Sept. 27 a historical tank battery spill near U.S. 34 and Weld County Road 55, about 2 miles northeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned tank battery. Three soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, naphthalene, 1- methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 26 a historical well spill near U.S. 85 and Weld 30 in Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found near the separator. The volume of the release is unknown. Assessment is ongoing.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 26 a historical spill near Weld 257 and 52, about 4 miles north of Johnstown. An unknown amount of oil spilled. An organic subsurface exceedance was found from the separator to the tank battery, along the dump lines.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Sept. 26 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 57 and 46, about 9 miles south of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned tank battery. One soil sample from the produced water vessel exceeded COGCC standards for 1-methylnaphthalene.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 23 a historical well spill near Weld 257 and 48 1/2 in Milliken. An unknown amount of production fluid spilled. The historical release was found at the wellhead.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 23 a historical spill near Weld 57 and 56, about 3 miles east of Kersey. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. The historical release was found at the produced water vault.

» BAYSWATER EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION LLC reported Sept. 23 a recent tank battery spill near Weld 76 and 33, about 4 miles southwest of Ault. An estimated 22 barrels of produced water spilled. The operator noticed produced water surfacing above the dump line corridor. The facility was immediately shut in, and the produced water stopped surfacing. No water flowed off the location. Cleanup is underway, and an investigation into the cause of the release is ongoing. One soil sample, suspected to be most impacted, was collected for profiling purposes. The sample was submitted for lab analysis.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 23 a recent spill near Weld 27 and 4, about 4 miles north of Brighton. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. A pinhole was observed at bottom of the oil tank. The spill was completely contained within secondary containment.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 22 a recent well spill near Weld 16 1/2 and 5 in Frederick. An unknown amount of stray soil gas spilled. Five shallow soil vapor points were installed in the vicinity of the wellhead during routine testing. Samples were collected and submitted for gas composition analysis. Sample results indicated the presence of a trace concentration of thermogenic gas.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 22 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 20 1/2 and 7 in Rinn. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found below the aboveground storage tank during decommissioning. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 21 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 39 and 22, about 10 miles southeast of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found below the former aboveground storage tank during a facility upgrade. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 20 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 36 1/2 and 17 about 5 miles northwest of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found near the emission control device during tank battery removal. The volume of the release is unknown.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Sept. 19 a historical flowline spill near Weld 46 1/2 and 19 in Johnstown. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found following flowline removal operations. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.
