Space coast anglers catch red fish in the harbor and lagoon

Every year, when Veterans Day approaches, a biological phenomenon develops in the nearshore waters of the Space Coast coastline.

This is the next stage of the autumn migration. After the last few schools of mullet pushed southward, blue fish, mackerel, and mackerel began to arrive. For many anglers, the transition from snooker and silver carp caught in summer to these three seasons means the best season. This means that autumn is really here, perhaps even more so than larger waves, shorter days or cool and dry air.

Closing in force: to remind anglers to pay attention to the closure of the three fishery harvests currently in progress.

Captain Jon Lulay of Titusville 2 Castaway Charters said it was a very productive week for his anglers. In the lagoon, Lulay said that on most days, the wind stains the water, so he has been using burst corks to catch trout, some smaller redfish and blackfish. Lulay said try to put a live shrimp or Berkley Gulp! Smear the tail on the 1/8 ounce clamp head under the cork. If you plan to fish in the Haulover Canal with some larger red and black drums, use blue crabs.

When the weather permits, fishing on a party boat leaving the port is a good choice for anglers. A recent trip on the Princess Canaveral harvested African pomfret, lamb snapper, mangrove snapper, small snapper, triggerfish, small goldfish, cobia, pointed shark, and snapper. Trollers looking for the current edge have been able to catch 12-18 pounds of mackerel, 15 pounds of blackfin tuna, and occasionally mackerel and mackerel. Grouper and larger yellowtail are in water at a depth of 120-180 feet.

Recently, rough waves have kept anglers away from space coast beaches, but this should change soon. Bonito, cod and yellow croaker can be caught in the tank between the coastal dike and the first sandbar. Use fish bites, isinglass or sand fleas. Bleached fleas are more effective because they stay on the hook for longer and will not be washed away after a single throw, but this is the time of the year when they are found to enter the shore defense. Longer shots may catch Spanish mackerel, blue fish and blue mackerel. Use clamps or chrome-plated plugs to bite.

The big waves caused poor fishing at the entrance for a few days, but this situation should change. In the second half of the upcoming tide, look for Spanish mackerel, blue fish, mackerel, and blue mackerel. Use sardines, diamond jigs, any jigs with gorgeous polyester film or chrome will catch them. In addition, roll up quickly. The faster a reel, the more likely it is that mackerel or blue fish will pile on it. Pompano can be caught from the waves. Snapper can be caught under the T stage or at the T Dock. Remember to throw back any flounder you catch before December 1.

Lulay said that some of the best fishing activities are catching live fish or yellow croaker at the docks in Port Canaveral. He led John Jackson and Phil Cross on a series of good fishing and the release of red fish and snooker. Red fish and big fish still spawn there. In the lagoon, black drum fish and red fish can be caught around the mangrove islands near Cocoa Beach. Live shrimp can catch speckled trout.

Try using Spinnerbaits or topwater frogs along the edge to catch bass in the early morning. In some canals and lakes, tilapia also pave the edge. Tilapia is a good target for anglers who have bow fishing equipment. With the cooler and longer nights, crappie fishing should start to get better on live fish.
