Invest Saint Lucia (ISL) is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation of its property in Vieux Fort Industrial Estate with the aim of installing an oxygen generation plant.

The St. Jude Hospital in Vieux Fort recently installed the oxygen generator to meet the previously imported demand. The management of St. Jude Hospital asked Invest Saint Lucia for space, and the agency agreed. The process includes a complete renovation, and ISL has installed infrastructure for auxiliary water, office space, bathrooms, windows, and other necessary facilities in the factory. The cost of retrofitting the space including electrical infrastructure and general engineering is approximately XCD 245,000 USD. Invest Saint Lucia will also provide St. Jude Hospital with rent-free for a period of time after the completion of the project at the end of November.

The new power plant will help solve problems related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which will cause critically ill patients to need oxygen. The plant is expected to shorten the waiting time for imports and eliminate supply shortages. When the factory is fully operational, St. Jude Hospital will no longer need to import oxygen to meet its needs.

Talking about the contribution of investing in St. Lucia to St. Jude Hospital, CEO Diana Henry Ernest said: Jude’s relationship with Invest Saint Lucia has been more than 10 years, so this is not only the beginning, but also the continuation. We finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and we can proudly say that St. Jude was the pioneer of this move. One can not only provide a reliable oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients, but also provide a reliable oxygen supply for patients with other diseases that require oxygen. "

Roderick Cherry, CEO of Invest Saint Lucia, added: “Since the tragic fire, Invest Saint Lucia has been supporting St. Jude Hospital by providing rent-free space. As the COVID-19 epidemic continues, we continue to see The importance of having fully functional healthcare facilities and the need for us to do all we can to help. Oxygen is an indispensable commodity. With new power plants, supply shortages will be alleviated, allowing patients to get what they need when they need it. Breathing support."

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Saint Lucia Investment Authority has pledged to strengthen its support for the health and education sectors, both of which are key to the country’s economic development.
