Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been taking time to reassess my habits during cold, flu and indoor allergy seasons. When I was a graduate student, I never opened windows or used an air purifier and cleaned the apartment as little as possible, even if I was diagnosed with an allergy by a doctor. (I was 20 years old, what do you expect?) I remember that in the weeks before I moved out of that apartment and accepted it, I felt a little bit bad. When I left, I felt much better in a day or two, but I never realized how stale my air became. I just smiled and moved on.

Why did I accept bad air before? When I finally decided to buy an air purifier after moving to New York City, I would definitely consider indoor allergies and my experience in graduate school.

Although my budget is limited, I need a purifier that can cover at least my bedroom area (approximately 90 square feet) and has passed HEPA filtration certification. ("HEPA" stands for "High Efficiency Particulate Air". Experts tell us that HEPA filter is a function that any air purifier you buy should have.)

(Please note that the Environmental Protection Agency stated that you should not rely solely on air purifiers to protect you from Covid virus particles. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends practices such as vaccinations, social distancing and wearing masks. The best choice to bet with the disease.)

There are many choices of air purifiers, so I searched on the Internet and finally chose the air purifier of the popular brand Levoit-I like it very much. This year I bought three more to set up my Levoit purifier to fill the whole Family.

According to the manufacturer, this air purifier from Levoit is one of the most acclaimed air purifiers in 2021, priced at less than $100, but it offers HEPA filtration that can remove 99.97% of 0.3 micron particles in the air. It also has a pre-filter and an activated carbon filter, and a night light that never interferes with my sleep. Levoit said it is suitable for indoor spaces of 129 square feet or less, so it is very suitable for my bedroom.

It’s difficult to quantify how well the air purifier works—after all we can’t see most air pollutants—but my Levoit runs quietly, and when I replace and clean the HEPA filter and pre-filter, they seem to be full of dust, Pollen and other annoying things (Levoit recommends making it every two to three months).

What really made me happy was that I got a Levoit air purifier, but first, when I moved to a larger apartment, I started to experience those feelings of poor air circulation again (because I have been diagnosed, I know at least Part of it was an allergic attack), so I bought three Levoit purifiers to cover my larger square feet and other rooms. Since then, I feel that my breathing has improved significantly. The air seems to be significantly clearer, and I hardly need to remove dust. In general, I feel that I am enjoying a higher quality of life, and my air purifier has played a big role in this regard.

Admittedly, it is not a perfect device-you can only use it in smaller rooms, and I accidentally knocked down the metal structure. I don’t use the night light often, nor am I completely sure why it exists, unless you leave it in the middle of the sidewalk and want to avoid tripping over it in the dark. But, in the final analysis, my Levoit is an affordable HEPA air purifier, and I feel better at home and breathe better. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quiet, effective and affordable air purifier.

The following are other air purifiers to consider, we include them here based on previous reports and expert guidance of Select readers’ interest. If you need to purify the air in a room larger than mine, or if you want a dual-function purifier, they may be worth considering.

According to the company, this air purifier from Instant is suitable for rooms up to 388 square feet and uses carbon filters and HEPA filters. It is available in pearl and charcoal colors.

According to Dyson, this dual-function air purifier and fan from Dyson can purify up to 2,860 cubic feet of space-the equivalent of about 350 square feet and 8 feet high room-and use HEPA filters. It is available in nickel and black colors.
